She continued her education in Product Development at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising, where she started trend consulting at Stylesight and styling at Paper Magazine. Since graduating, Melissa continues to consult for forecasting companies and has added clients such as Atlantic Records, Universal Records, Republic Records, Harper Publications, LA Confidential and numerous celebrities to her evergrowing resume.

2) Tell us the story behind your favorite wardrobe item

I always find a piece that I wear religiously after purchasing. Recently I've been living in my Helmut Lang washed leather jacket. I just returned from the Sasquatch Music Festival in my home state of Washington and my trooper of a jacket withstood (for the most part) four days of amazing music, sunny days and chilly nights. While watching the band Wild Belle at the festival, I noticed the lead singer Natalie Bergman wearing the same one. The girl has great taste!

3) What's your most memorable 'panic moment'
One of my current clients recently performed at Wango Tango. The zipper for her red carpet outfit completely fell off the track 20 minutes before she had to leave for the event.

4) How did you recover from it gracefully?'

Although that type of issue cannot be fixed within 20 minutes, we had luckily decided on two outfits for the event; one for her red carpet appearance and one for her performance. She wore the performance look for both and changed up her hair between red carpet and performance.

5) What is your favorite era for fashion?

Definitely the 60's-70's. Especially when it's complemented by a little bit of tacky 90's grunge.

6) What was your big break?

I'd like to think I haven't had one. A great friend once told me that the moment you get too comfortable, you've lost your edge. I couldn't agree more, and it makes me continually push for new opportunities and experiences.

7) Whose closet would you most like to raid?

Kate Moss and Erin Wasson

8) Who are your favorite designers?

Always McQueen. Riccardo Tisci, Isabel Marant, Hedi Slimane, Yohji Yamamoto
