A Conversation with Joey Tierney: Celebrity Stylist & Designer

American-born fashion stylist and designer, Joey Tierney has garnered international attention from the fashion and entertainment media for over a decade, known for “bringing rocker infused chic to the dinner party.” Touted by WWD Beauty Biz’s “It List” as one of the “stylists celebrities have on speed dial,” Tierney opened the doors of Haute Street Inc, her Los Angeles-based fashion styling, design and consulting house in 2007.

Though Tierney is credited with styling many of Hollywood’s leading ladies, including Emmy award-winner, Jaime Pressly, Kristen Bell, Diana Agron, Rose Byrne, Natasha Bedingfield, Diana Krall, Julie Benz and reality TV star, Audrina Patridge, it is the celebrity men that are keeping her busy. Tierney has styled some of Hollywood’s most respected actors, including Oscar winner, Billy Bob Thorton, Andy Garcia, Viggo Mortinson, Scott Caan, Alex O’Laughlin, Michael Cera, and Seth Green. Most recently adding Emmy award-winning funny man, Eric Stonestreet to her roster.

Tierney made a splash in 2003 when she launched her fashion label, Joey & T, and again in 2007 with her ready-to -wear collection, Joey Tierney at IMG Mercedes -Benz Fashion Week. The Daily named her “the darling of fashion week” attracting high-profile clientele such as Dustin Hoffman, Juliette Lewis and Sharon & Ozzy Osbourne sitting front row.

In addition, Tierney has been featured as an on-camera celebrity style expert on Access Hollywood LIVE!, E! Entertainment’s, “Fashion Police,” TV Guide Network’s ” The Fashion Team,” and is regularly quoted in the entertainment weeklies for her trendsetting fashion tips.

Tierney began her career touring with pop princess Britney Spears, for her “Oops I Did it Again” and “Dream Within a Dream” world tours. Her success can be attributed to her obsession with style lines and fashion forecasting, but she insists shooting with iconic photographer Patrick Demarchelier was the moment she felt she had finally ” arrived.

Tell us the story behind your favorite wardrobe item

Joey: My favorite wardrobe piece at the moment are my neon orange Jimmy Choo Stilettos. I'm obsessed with them!

What’s your most memorable ‘panic moment’?

Joey: My most memorable panic moment was two years ago while getting Audrina Patridge ready to host the MTV VMA carpet. The zipper that ran up the entire back of the dress zipped right off! I literally had 3 minutes to sew it together while one of the producers was pounding on the door! SEE THE LOOK HERE.

How did you recover from it gracefully?

Joey: Thank god my assistant was with me calmly redirecting attention to her amazing Balmain heels!

What is your favorite era for fashion?

Joey: My favorite era of fashion was the 70's early 80's - Michelle Pfeiffer in Scarface comes to mind.

What was your big break?

Joey: My big break was touring with Britney Spears on the "Oops I Did It Again" & "Dream within a Dream" world tours.

Whose closet would you most like to raid?

Joey: That's a toss up - Either Bianca Jagger or Kate Moss

Who are your favorite designers?

Joey: My favorite designers are Isabel Marant, Riccardo Tisci (Givenchy), Oliver Rousteing (Balmain) and Erdem Moralioglu (Erdem).
